COUNTERING RELIGIOUS EXTREMISM

Pathways to Peace

Programmes in six countries strengthening resilience against religious radicalisation

COUNTERING RELIGION EXTREMISM

What role does religion play in violent radicalisation? What makes people susceptible to recruitment by groups using religion to justify acts of violence? How can communities work to prevent violent radicalisation (religious or otherwise) and assure that freedom of religion is respected as a fundamental right?

Countering Religious Extremism addresses these questions from multiple points of view. We hear from NGOs, researchers and educators working to counter radicalisation in very different cultural and socio-economic contexts. Examples are provided from Australia, Bulgaria, India, Italy, Morocco and the UK.

This 38-minute documentary can be watched all at once or in chapters. Following a brief introductory segment, there are six country chapters (which can be watched in any order). Though the film addresses mature themes, the content is appropriate for all audiences. It is intended primarily to serve the interests of  advanced learners, educators and policymakers.
